We employ independent paint inspectors to oversee all our projects, ensuring that they are executed in accordance with the manufacturers' specifications.

This approach provides our clients with peace of mind, assuring them of the best possible outcome and a durable, long-lasting finish.

  • Our Standard Pre-Tests include: 

    1. Assessment of the Original Coating System: 

       - Inspect the surface for overall condition.

       - Identify any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.

    2. Dry Film Thickness (DFT) Measurement:

       - Utilise a DFT gauge to measure the thickness of the existing coating, determining its suitability for repainting.

    3. Dolly Test for Adhesion:

       - Conduct a dolly test to evaluate the adhesion of the orginal coating. This involves applying a small adhesive disc to the surface and measuring how well it adheres when removed.

    4. Soluble Salt Testing:

       - Perform a soluble salt test to detect surface contamination. This process includes using a test kit to analyse water samples collected from the surface for soluble salt levels.

    5. Documentation of Findings:

       - Record all measurements and test results to inform the recoating process and provide a reference for future evaluations.

  • To further enhance our pre-coating evaluation, we offer a range of additional assessments:

    1. Surface Profile Measurement:

       - Use a profilometer to gauge the surface roughness of the material, ensuring optimal mechanical adhesion for the new coating.

    2. Chemical Resistance Evaluation:

       - Assess the existing coating’s resistance to chemicals, particularly in harsh environments, to inform the selection of a compatible paint system.

    3. Environmental Assessment:

       - Analyse environmental factors affecting the façade, including UV exposure, weathering, and local pollutants, to guide the choice of a durable paint.

    4. Moisture Content Measurement:

       - Evaluate the moisture content of the existing coating, as elevated moisture levels can impact adhesion and the curing process of the new paint.

    5. Compatibility Testing with Proposed Coatings:

       - Conduct patch tests to assess the compatibility of proposed coatings with the existing coating, ensuring proper adhesion and aesthetic appearance.

This year, we also addressed a variety of powder coating failures across the island, with notable projects including the Atlantic Point Apartments in Portstewart, Co. Antrim, along with others mentioned above.
